just a tangy fruit–it’s packed with fiber, antioxidants, and vitamin C.

Some studies have also found that consuming grapefruit regularly can help with fat burning and weight management. But how much of this is true? Keep reading to learn more about what science says about red grapefruit and reducing body weight.

Studies on Grapefruit and Weight Loss

From protecting your heart health to maintaining healthy blood pressure, eating grapefruit comes with all kinds of health benefits. But, are they good for weight loss? That’s a question many people ask, and science has a few answers. Below, you can learn more about a study that showed how adding grapefruit products, like the fresh fruit or the juice, to your diet might help with achieving or maintaining a healthy weight.

In a 12-week study with 91 people who had obesity, participants were split into four groups. One took placebo capsules with apple juice, another had grapefruit capsules with apple juice, a third drank grapefruit juice with placebo capsules, and the last group ate half a grapefruit before each meal, three times a day.

By the end, the fresh grapefruit group lost the most weight, about 1.6 kg. They also showed better responses to insulin resistance, meaning their bodies handled blood sugar better.

There have long been fad diets that have strict rules on how to incorporate grapefruit into your regular meals. Grapefruit Medication Interactions Warning

Before making grapefruit a consistent part of your diet, it’s important to take note of the way this vitamin-packed fruit can interact with certain medications. If you’re taking medications for your heart, anxiety, depression, or organ transplants, as well as some other types of medications.
